Building a new kindergarten in Kirinda

Given notice, planned, built: in October 2023, 74 children moved into the new kindergarten, which was officially opened on 11 November.

At the end of 2022 we were given notice on the rooms used by our kindergarten. At short notice, the church let us use a guest house as emergency accommodation. However, the building was far too small, and we had to reduce the number of children considerably. Planning, funding, permits and construction – everything had to happen at record speed.

Thanks to our staff in Kirinda and our volunteers here in Germany, we were able to start building as early as May 2023.

Funding

The funding was secured through grants from several foundations (Merck Family Foundation, Cetto Foundation and Lotte-von-Süsskind-Stiftung) – and by a number of people celebrating their birthdays who went without presents and donated instead.

Moving in and official opening

In October 2023, just in time for the new school year, 74 children in three classes were able to move into the rooms, where they can now learn and play in peace. The official opening took place on 11 November 2023, attended by many representatives of the church, the I.P.K. and our chair.

Work on the outdoor area is still under way: a retaining wall is being built, the grounds are being fenced in and the play equipment is being put up. After that, the garden can be filled with life again – the children can hardly wait.

Only a well-practised organisation with long-standing, reliable supporters is able to carry out such an extensive project in so short a time.
