All about bananas

New banana varieties yield almost 100 kg per plant instead of around 30 kg. Seedlings cost the equivalent of 50 cents.

The banana project distributes seedlings of high-yielding varieties and trains people in growing them. In the first phases, 150 people took part in training courses. People from Kirinda and the surrounding villages can buy the seedlings for the equivalent of 50 cents each.

We are now (2022) in phase 5. More parishes belonging to Kirinda have joined, and demand for seedlings remains high.

Most of the plants yield almost 100 kg of bananas. With the varieties grown previously, it was around 30 kg.
