Renovating the football pitch
Kirinda's school sports field was under water for almost the whole year. With new drainage, the ball can roll again.
Renovating the football pitch is a really important project for the schools in Kirinda. For several years the students had not been able to play on the old pitch and had to use another pitch a few kilometres away instead. School sport was no longer possible either, because the pitch was flooded for most of the year.
From mud bath to grass pitch
With support from various foundations and associations, the funding was secured, and work began in August 2022. Tendering, awarding the contract and the start of construction followed in quick succession. Until the start of the rainy season at the end of October, the work made very good progress; then there was a break of almost four weeks. This showed that the drainage work had been exactly right: the water was able to drain away well.
The pitch is now finished, and the grass needs to grow in and thicken. All of Kirinda is delighted that the ball will soon be rolling again.
