Let the water flow: water project phase 3
New spring catchments, pipes and a water kiosk: the amount of water in Kirinda rose from 10 to 40 litres per minute.
Phase 3 successfully completed
Phase 3 of the water project began in May 2015 with initial surveys in the region and was successfully completed at the end of September. New springs were tapped, a pipe network was extended, and a water kiosk and further water points were built – within the planned budget.
At the end of the dry season, the amount of water rose from 10 to 40 litres per minute.
We would like to thank, with all our hearts, the Röchling Stiftung for the funding, Ingenieure ohne Grenzen (Engineers Without Borders, Mannheim regional group), without whom the project could never have been carried out, and everyone in Kirinda who lent a hand.
The earlier phases
- Phase 1: The primary and secondary schools now have a 10,000-litre tank that collects rainwater from the gutters. The children use it to wash their hands, and people in the village use it to do their laundry.
- Phase 2: The three existing springs were checked and their catchments renewed. They feed a cistern in the village that our association financed back in 2008.
